Mess Night – Tuesday 10 January 2023

To all Shipmates

For our first Mess Night of 2023 we are delighted to have a guest speaker; retired Royal Marines Corps Regimental Sergeant Major, George Foster. He will be speaking about his ‘Role as a Yeoman Warder of The Queen’s Bodyguard’.

We are sure you will find this a hugely interesting and entertaining talk, which will be followed by a buffet.

Christmas Party Mess Night – Tuesday 13 December 2022


Shipmates, we are pleased to confirm the following arrangements for our branch Christmas Party:

  • Date – Tuesday 13 December 2022
  • Time – 7.30pm for 8pm start
  • Entertainment will be provided by the vintage vocal harmony duo “Scarlet Swing”
  • Extra special complementary Christmas Buffet

There will also be a Christmas Raffle – contributions from mess members will be gratefully received.

In an effort to cater for numbers, please confirm one way or the other if you will be attending to either Pauline Chalk ( or Lynda Drake ( by Monday 5th December.

Dancing shoes and Christmas jumpers are optional! In any event the rig for the evening is casual.

We do hope that you will be able to attend and have an enjoyable evening, and look forward to seeing you soon.

Mess Night – Tuesday 8 November 2022

Hello Shipmates

At November’s Mess Night there will be a short presentation by Norman and Robert Aish, who will also be donating a cheque to the branch, after which we have a presentation on ‘The British Pacific Fleet 1944-45’ by S/m Ralph Dodds. This will be followed by a buffet prepared by Candy.

The Rig for the evening will be Jackets.

We look forward to seeing you all at what appears to be an interesting evening.

To All Shipmates, a message from our Social Secretary:

We are having a presentation by Sandra Peaston on Fraud and Fraud Prevention. This, I am sure, will be an informative and useful insight into how we can protect ourselves, and will be followed by a hot supper prepared by Candy.

The rig for the evening will be casual.

May I please ask that if you have any donations for the Raffle for the Trafalgar Night Dinner, please bring them along. Thank you.

Mess Night 13 September 2022 cancelled


Following Thursday evening’s devastating news of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II,  I have in consultation with your Committee taken the decision, as a mark of respect, to cancel our Mess Night next Tuesday, 13 September.

Mess Night – Tuesday 9 August 2022

Come and help us celebrate a very special occasion within the Branch. 

To mark the event we have the duo ‘Scarlet Swing’ to entertain us, followed by a special buffet and a cake made by S/m Fiona Dodds.

We would like as many of our mess members to attend as possible, and join in with the celebrations. Rig for the evening is jackets.

To All Shipmates

S/m Fiona Dodds will be giving us an entertaining talk on “Confessions of a Nurse Part 2”!

This will be followed by one of Candy’s buffets in the style of a “Cream Tea” and a sponge made by S/m Fiona.

With respect to our Queen and her recent Celebration, the rig for the evening will be Jackets and Ties.

Mess Night – Tuesday 10 May 2022

Hello Shipmates,

At tonight’s Mess Night we will be having an interesting presentation by S/M Ralph Dodds about the First Battle of the Falklands, followed by one of Candy’s delicious buffets and a raffle.

The suggested rig for the evening is Blazer and RNA tie, for those who have them, as a mark of respect for our late President, who has sadly “Crossed the Bar”.

Upcoming events in April and May 2022

Mess Night – Tuesday 12 April 2022

We have an interesting and informative talk by Keith Partridge, New Forest Team Leader for the RSPB. This is his second visit to us and he is giving us a completely new presentation. This will be followed by a buffet supper and the rig for this night is Blazers.

Fund Raising Event – Saturday 7 May 2022 at Sainsbury’s Ringwood – 1000 to 1600

This is the first of this year’s fund raising events for the branch. If any of our members would like to come along and help, your support would be gratefully received, we are looking for help for up to 2 hours. If you are able to help please email our Social Secretary, Lynda Drake, directly on as she is coordinating the event.

Ferndown Branch Visit to HMS Defender – Sunday 8 May 2022

The Branch has been invited to visit HMS Defender while alongside at Portsmouth on Sunday 8 May. This is in addition to the Affiliates Day on Wednesday 11 May 2022.

Full details for Sunday 8 May will be given out at the April Mess Night. It is hoped that we will have the use of the Sea Cadets minibus, there will be a small charge for the use. Our Welfare Secretary, Fiona Dodds, has kindly offered to drive for us.
