Mess Night – Tuesday 13 May 2025

To All Shipmates,

It has been decided, in honour of Gareth, to hold a quiet Mess Night where shipmates can chat and spend time together.

There will be a tot of rum, so you can raise a glass to him.

It was felt appropriate not to have a Raffle on this occasion.

Please wear your Blazers for Gareth.

Mess Night – 14 January 2025

To all Shipmates,

Our January Mess Night will take place on next Tuesday, 14 January, at 7.30pm for 8.00pm start.

On 24 January 1945, the Fleet Air Arm launched an air raid to attack the Japanese oil refineries at Palembang in Sumatra. Five days later they repeated the feat. Despite it being the biggest ever air raid launched by Royal Navy Aircraft Carriers either before or after Operation Meridian, as it was known, it has been largely forgotten.

Our January Mess Night will celebrate the 80th anniversary of this attack. Our Vice Chairman, S/M Ralph Dodds, will give an illustrated talk about the actions of all those years ago and describe the impact that it had on the War on the Far East.

The raffle will close the evening.

Do come along and join in.

Xmas Party – 10 December 2024

Christmas

To All Shipmates,

Our Xmas Party will be held on Tuesday 10 December 2024, at 1930 onwards for 2000 hours.

We will be having a Christmas Sing Along with Fiona and Emma, song sheets will be provided.

There will be a buffet provided for you by the RNA, followed by the raffle.

So put on your Xmas jumpers and come along and join in the fun.

A ‘Mess Night at the Museum’, November 2024

The Mess night of 12 November was well attended and we were delighted to welcome Mr Rob Gray from The Museum of East Dorset, Wimborne.

Rob very kindly brought some artefacts from the museum which gave an insight not only to the history of Wimborne, but of other items too. Those present were able to touch flint stone hand tools to Frozen Charlotte, medical kits to Mary boxes. Rob also gave a background to what a Curator’s job involved, which involved a lot of paperwork to meet standards and working with other areas of expertise.

The time flew by and every one really enjoyed the evening. We all came away having learnt something and will surely be visiting the museum at some point in the future.
