Evening Shipmates

Come and join us for our first ‘post Lockdown Mess Night’ on Tuesday 8 September 2020, from 7.30 pm onwards for an 8 pm start.

It will be a great opportunity to catch up with each other, and meet for a chat over a drink. However, the format of the evening will be slightly different to comply with the ‘new normal’.

Social distancing is in place, and the seating is arranged accordingly for everyone’s safety – no need to sit on your own though, as two households can share a table, if you choose to.

After discussion with the Club Committee, we have been asked not to bring in our own food, as previously suggested, as this contravenes the Covid-19 rules due to the likelihood of sharing food. Bar snacks (crisps etc) are available from the bar if you are peckish, but the usual supper will not be served due to the current rules.

We are not currently allowed live entertainers, but Shipmate Bob will come up with something to keep us entertained, and we will of course have our raffle.

An optional informal dress code has been suggested for the occasion.

Happy Christmas Shipmates!

Come along and celebrate Christmas with us at our Mess Night on Tuesday 10 December 2019.

We have the marvellous Land Girls entertaining us with music from the 50s and 60s, as well as a selection of festive songs.

Candy will be providing a superb Christmas buffet, all rounded off by your chance to scoop a prize in the raffle.

We are asking for just £5 per person to contribute towards the cost of the food and entertainment.

So go on, dig out your Christmas jumpers,  your 50s and 60s outfits or even a bit of glitter and come and join in the fun – we look forward to seeing you there.

Paul sang for us at the brilliant Trafalgar Night and for those who couldn’t make it, we have him for a Second Time!

Evening Shipmates. At tomorrow’s Mess Night (8th October) we will be welcoming our very own Ralph Dodds, Lt Commander RN (retired) who will be giving a talk about the Gulf War.

During his time in the Royal Navy Ralph saw active service in the Falklands conflict, flew in Lynx helicopters during the Iran-Iraq and Gulf wars and later commanded HMS Glasgow on a Pacific deployment.

The evening will be rounded off by one of Candy’s lovely buffets.

At Tuesday’s Mess Night (10 September) we have an incredibly talented solo artist coming along to sing for you – Fleur Linsday.

Fleur performs a range of covers and original material. She has released 3 singles, all of which have been played on ‘BBC Music Introducing’.  Fleur performed her first Open Mic event in June 2018 when she was just 14 and hasn’t looked back since! *

Oh and a reminder that if you haven’t already done so, could you bring along your menu choices and payment for Trafalgar Night – many thanks.

Hi Shipmates

We have a great evening lined up for you at next Tuesday’s Mess Night; on 9th July at 8pm we have Arnold Gutbucket coming along to entertain you.

Arnold has a great repertoire of gags, props, audience participation and music – all combine to make for a great family-friendly show which you won’t want to miss.

Since 1979 Arnold has travelled the world performing in a variety of venues. He has appeared on television as well as live shows where he has performed alongside many top names from the showbiz world, including the likes of Chas & Dave, Engelbert Humperdink, Shakin’ Stevens, The Drifters and many more…

Arnold has written comedy material for other entertainers and as an actor he’s appeared in many TV productions alongside household names such as Faye Dunaway, Colin Firth, David Tennant and Jack Whitehall.

Evening Shipmates

At tomorrow’s Mess Night (Tuesday 11 June) we have musician, Ian Roberts, coming along to entertain us.

Ian has been performing around the Bournemouth and Ringwood areas for nearly 30 years. He has also lived in the north of England and was well known around Manchester playing the pubs and clubs at various events. After moving back to the south coast last year, he picked up where he left off and is now playing at lots of different venues across Hampshire and Dorset.

His sets are acoustic and he has a huge range of songs in his repertoire, playing covers from the 1950s right through to today – along with a few originals which he is hoping to record and release this year!!

We look forward to welcoming Ian tomorrow, and hope you will come along and enjoy the music.
